Slovakia received the first delivery of the ordered Barak MX air defense system. The first battery is already deployed at an unspecified location. Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák (Smer-SD) informed about it. “It’s a bit more complicated to explain exactly because even in the case of the production of these systems there was a huge delay,” pointed out the Minister of Defense.
- Slovakia received the first battery of the Barak MX air defense system.
- The battery is located at the intersection between Slovak nuclear power plants.
- Slovak soldiers have already started training on the Barak MX system and are continuing.
- Slovakia is to acquire all six batteries of the Barak MX system by 2030.
- The delivery of the first Barak MX battery was also delayed due to the war in Iran.
Kaliņák explained that the battery of the Israeli system is in the middle of “the intersection between our nuclear power plants”. He added that weapons system experts will come to Slovakia. Slovak soldiers have already completed part of the training and will continue it. According to him, Slovakia has had the battery for about ten days. It will take a few weeks to get the system up and running. Slovakia should receive all six batteries by 2030.
The Barak MX air defense system was ordered by the Department of Defense from Israel at the end of 2024. Originally, the first battery was supposed to arrive in Slovakia at the turn of 2025 and 2026. However, the delivery was also delayed due to the war in Iran.
