An Israeli drone strikes during a ceasefire in Lebanon. He hit a motorcycle near Bajt Jahún and killed one person

The Civil Defense of Southern Lebanon reported on an Israeli drone attack that took place during the ten-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. As Al-Jazeera television specified, the drone targeted a motorcycle moving in the area near the village of Bajt Jahún. One person lost his life, reports TASR according to the AFP agency.

  • An Israeli drone hit a motorcycle near the village of Bajt Jahún during the ten-day ceasefire.
  • Israel retained the right to attack Hezbollah as part of the ceasefire.
  • Israel maintains a ten-kilometer security zone with no commitment to withdraw troops.
  • Donald Trump publicly announced a ban on further Israeli bombing of Lebanon by the United States.
  • The Lebanese army noted Israeli ceasefire violations and warned residents against returning.

Under the terms of the ceasefire, Israel reserves the right to continue attacking the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group to prevent “planned, imminent or ongoing attacks along the border in southern Lebanon.”

Israel maintains the zone

At the same time, Israel said it would maintain a 10-kilometer security zone. The cease-fire agreement contains no provision for an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon.

Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Kac specified that the area between the aforementioned security zone and the Lítání River, located approximately 30 kilometers from the Israeli border, had not yet been “cleared of terrorists and weapons.” He added that if diplomatic pressure fails to achieve this goal, military action could resume.

Trump’s response to the attack

US President Donald Trump said on his social network Truth Social that “Israel will no longer bomb Lebanon. The US FORBIDDEN them. Enough!!!”

The truce between the two countries was announced by US President Donald Trump after talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Awn. It went into effect on Thursday at 11:00 p.m. CEST. Hezbollah has promised to respect the ceasefire if Israeli attacks on its positions stop.

Ceasefire violations

However, the Lebanese army already reported on violations of the cease-fire by Israel during the night on Friday, including the shelling of several villages in the south of Lebanon, and called on citizens not to return to these areas yet. The Israeli army did not immediately comment.

A few hours after the start of a ten-day ceasefire with Lebanon, the Israeli army announced the lifting of most restrictions related to the conflict, AFP reported.

“The entire country will go to full operational level without restrictions,” the military said. The exception remains Israel’s northern border with Lebanon, where a ban on gatherings of more than 1,000 people will apply until Saturday at 5:00 p.m. CEST.

Validity of measures

The army specified that the new measures apply from Friday 15:00 CEST until Thursday, April 23, 19:00 CEST.

Following a November 2024 ceasefire that was intended to end the previous war between Hezbollah and Israel, Israel continued to bomb Lebanon, usually claiming that these attacks were directed at Hezbollah.
