IRS errors “scare” the Portuguese

In April, demand for filling support services doubled. There is the fear of failing to declare. 35 euros per service.

April is the month in which the deadline for submitting the declaration of IRS 2026 (relating to 2025 income); extends until June 30th.

The Portuguese do not want to fail in this statement. And data from Fixando confirms this fear.

The online service contracting platform shows that, since the beginning of this month, there has been a growth in 115% in the search for support services for filling out the IRS. It is more than double compared to March.

More than half (59%) of tax and accounting professionals indicate that the demand for specialized support will increase in 2026.

In fact, this increase had already been noticed in March: demand was 42% higher than in March last year.

The two main factors are: fear of making mistakes (and having penalties) and the perception of greater complexity in the document. Errors in the IRS “scare” taxpayers, reads the statement sent to ZAP.

“Today, it’s no longer just about convenience — it’s about security. More and more taxpayers are looking for support to ensure they don’t make mistakes or leave money on the table, and this explains the growth we are seeing in the search for this type of service”, says Alice Nunes, director of new business at Fixando.

Demand increases, supply responds: each order submitted on the platform receives, on average, two proposals of professionals.

This service has an average value of 35 euros by declaration.

Experts admit that the Portuguese tax system is complex; It can easily generate significant failures on the part of taxpayers — especially when validating data, taking advantage of tax benefits and managing more complex situations.
