Trump says Iran has committed to “never again closing the Strait of Hormuz”

United States President Donald Trump said on Friday (17) that Iran had committed to “never closing the Strait of Hormuz again”, following news that the country had reopened the important waterway to maritime traffic.

“Iran has agreed to never again close the Strait of Hormuz. It will no longer be used as a weapon against the world! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Oil prices fell sharply and American stocks soared after Iran’s foreign minister said the Strait of Hormuz will be “completely open” to commercial transit for the remainder of the ceasefire.

The reopening of the strait has been a persistent stumbling block in peace talks, with global oil prices rising due to the grounding of tankers crossing the route during the war between the US and Iran.
