Israeli fire kills two water delivery men in Gaza, says Unicef

Unicef (United Nations Children’s Fund) declared this Friday (17) to be “outraged” after two truck drivers hired to deliver drinking water to families in the Gaza Strip were killed by Israeli fire.

The UN agency said in a statement that the attack took place during the routine transportation of water by truck on Friday morning at the Mansoura supply point in northern Gaza, which supplies Gaza City. Two other people were injured.

Unicef reported having suspended activities at the site and asked the Israeli authorities to investigate what happened, highlighting that humanitarian workers, civilians and people must be protected by international humanitarian law.

The Israeli embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The October ceasefire between Israel and Hamas halted two years of full-scale war, but left Israeli troops in control of an unpopulated zone that accounts for well more than half of , with Hamas in power in the remaining narrow coastal strip.

More than 750 Palestinians have been killed since then, according to local doctors, while militants have killed four Israeli soldiers. Israel and Hamas have traded accusations over ceasefire violations.
