The Government guaranteed that all Portuguese municipalities, including those in the Algarve, have access to the basic functionality that allows local accommodation registrations to be canceled, contradicting the position of the sector association.
In a written response sent to Lusa, the office of the Deputy Minister and State Reform, which oversees the State Technological Reform Agency, states that “all municipalities have access to the base functionality” and that “the mass cancellation functionality is available and is already being used by several municipalities through the developed platform”.
According to the same source, 159 municipalities expressed interest in using this tool, 35 are already using it and another 16 should have active access this week.
In the Algarve, Lagos was identified by the Local Accommodation Association in Portugal as one of the few municipalities where the mechanism has already been used successfully.
On Monday, the president of , Eduardo Miranda, told Lusa that “almost 150” cameras were still waiting for the functionality, arguing that its operationalization was “urgent”.
The Government emphasizes, however, that the registration cancellation function “continued to be available (…) as it always was”, adding that 108 of the 159 municipalities that opened processes have not yet designated the technician responsible for activating the mass cancellation.
