The new Hungarian government is negotiating billions of euros with Brussels. Magyar with a record mandate asks to unblock EU funds

The future government of Péter Magyar opens negotiations with the European Commission on the release of blocked billions of euros from EU funds and promises a quick restart of the economy.

The future government of Hungary’s Tisza party, led by Péter Magyar, which won a two-thirds majority in parliamentary elections a week ago, has begun key negotiations with the European Commission to release billions of euros in EU funds. This follows from Magyar’s statement, which Tisza gave to the TASR reporter in Budapest on Sunday.

  • Péter Magyar’s cabinet started negotiations with the European Commission on the release of funds.
  • The future government of the Tisza party won a two-thirds majority in the Hungarian elections.
  • Magyar described the Eurofunds as the claimed money of Hungarians, necessary for the economy.

“I clarified at the meeting that the government of the TISZA party begins its work with an unprecedented mandate and at the same time responsibility. I said that the decision of the Hungarians is a huge opportunity for Hungary and for Europe. I confirmed that thousands of billions from the Union belong to Hungary and the Hungarian people. Without money from the EU, it is not possible to start the Hungarian economy. European resources are not a gift, but a consideration for the money that the Hungarians have paid into the Union and for the work that our homeland has done for Europe,” emphasized Magyar after a two-day series of Budapest negotiations with the EC delegation.

Anti-corruption measures on the agenda

According to him, the future government is committed to the immediate adoption of anti-corruption measures, joining the European Public Prosecutor’s Office and restoring the independence of courts and media.

President Tisza pointed out that the consequences of the “mistakes and sins” of the outgoing government of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will not disappear overnight, but his government is looking for solutions to problems and not excuses.

Road to Brussels

“According to my plans, my third trip (note TASR: after Warsaw and Vienna) after taking the prime minister’s oath will lead to Brussels, where I will conclude a complex political agreement with the leaders of the EU institutions and member states, so that Hungarian citizens and companies will receive the thousands of billions from the union that belong to them as soon as possible,” added Magyar.
