Kruunuvuori Bridge offers routes for pedestrians, cyclists and trams for almost 1.2 km

Finland has just opened the longest bridge in the country – and it is already known that not a single car or motorcycle will ever be allowed on it.

The bridge Crown mountainofficially opened to the public last weekend, was designed just to pedestrians, cyclists and trams.

This bridge with 1,19 km in length is the last of three Crown Bridges to be built, linking Helsinki to its eastern island suburbs.

Specifically, it links to the residential area of Kruunuvoorenrantanext to the water, the island of Korkeasaarithe district of Laajasalo in the center of the Finnish capital.

Designed by UK-based bridge specialists and structural engineers, this impressive bridge is supported by 135 meter high cables.

According to WSP, cited by , there are some features carefully integrated into the structure. The entire facade of the imposing pylon lights up with colored LEDs that change according to the time of day, as well as the seasons.

A total of 100,000 hours of design work were required to complete the work, which has a planned useful life of 200 years – within which no car will ever pass.

With this, Finland now has what is being described as one of the largest public transport bridges in the world.

With its citizen-centric design and future-oriented engineering approach, this could be a benchmark for other countries to emulate in the years to come.
