US forces have intervened and taken full control of an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman, US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday. According to him, the vessel tried to overcome the American blockade around Iranian ports, reports TASR according to the Sky News channel.
“The Iranian crew refused to obey, so our navy stopped them in place by hitting the engine room,” said Trump in a post on his social network Truth Social. The US military has previously warned that any ships attempting to breach the blockade will be intercepted and seized. Iran has not yet commented on the incident.
Tehran announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, but reversed that decision on Saturday after Trump said the United States would continue a naval blockade of Iranian ports until a peace deal is reached. Iran considers the blockade a violation of the ceasefire agreement.
