Banco Rendimento was the target of a hacker attack, in yet another case of cyber vulnerability in the Brazilian financial sector. In a note, the institution, which offers exchange, credit and payments services, reported that it “identified and contained” a cyber security incident on Tuesday, 21, in the morning.
According to the statement, the episode affected some customer access channels, which affected some accounts. The bank, however, did not disclose the number of impacted users, nor any financial volumes.
Also according to Rendimento, the information and technology security team acted “immediately” to isolate the threat and reinforced protective measures to prevent new occurrences.

Services are now back to normal and the case has been reported to the competent authorities. The institution reiterated its “continuous commitment” to best cybersecurity and data protection practices.
Last year, at least eight cyber incidents in Brazil resulted in the embezzlement of R$1.5 billion, concentrated in the months of July and August last year, as revealed by the executive secretary of the Central Bank, Rogerio Lucca, in a Senate hearing. In general, the events have mainly targeted companies authorized to provide financial infrastructure provision services, known as PSTI.
In response, the Central Bank tightened regulations on the issue. In one of the resolutions issued last year, the monetary authority began to require annual independent intrusion tests, in which institutions need to simulate cyber offensive cases against their own systems to prove it.
