(Reuters) – The extension of the ceasefire with Iran announced this Tuesday by US President Donald Trump is a ‘maneuver to buy time’ for a surprise attack, said this Tuesday an advisor to the President of Iran’s Parliament and main negotiator, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.
In a statement published on his social network, Truth Social, the American president said he ordered the Armed Forces to “continue the blockade and, in all other aspects, remain ready and able”. Trump has used the blockade of Iranian ports as a way to pressure the country for a deal.
According to the president, the request for a ceasefire was made by Marshal Asim Munir and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif. He further stated that the Iranian government would be “seriously fragmented” and the suspension of the attacks would give time for leaders and representatives to present a unified proposal.
