The Ministry of Defense announces reinforcement: Slovakia has the new Israeli Barak MX system earlier than planned

The Israeli Ministry of Defense said on Thursday that the delivery of the Barak MX air defense system to Slovakia will contribute to “improving the ability to defend Slovakia’s airspace against the entire spectrum of modern air threats and at the same time strengthen NATO’s collective security architecture”. TASR informs about it.

“This delivery, which was completed ahead of schedule and includes training and operational readiness, represents a significant improvement in Slovakia’s ability to defend its airspace against the full spectrum of modern air threats, from drones and fighter jets to cruise missiles and ballistic missiles, while further strengthening NATO’s collective security architecture,” the Israeli ministry said in a statement on the LinkedIn platform.

“(The delivery of the system) reflects the growing global demand for advanced, reliable and rapidly deployable solutions and includes meaningful cooperation with Slovak industry, support for local production, technology transfer and economic growth,” added the ministry.

The Minister of Defense of the Slovak Republic, Robert Kaliňák, informed about the delivery of the first delivery of the Barak MX system a week ago. He added that the battery is already developed at an unspecified location somewhere in the middle of “the intersection between our nuclear power plants.” The Barak MX air defense system was ordered by the Slovak Department of Defense from Israel at the end of 2024. Originally, the first battery was supposed to arrive in Slovakia at the turn of 2025 and 2026. However, the delivery was also delayed due to the war in Iran.
