The American side considers him the head of the delegation and thus Vance’s counterpart. However, the vice president will be ready to travel to Islamabad if the talks progress. Members of his team will be in Pakistan and will be part of the talks.

In the meantime, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavittová confirmed CNN’s information, according to which the negotiators will depart on Saturday morning, American time. “Everyone will be prepared to go to Pakistan if necessary, but Steve and Jared will go there first and they will update the vice president and the rest of the team,” she said on Fox News.
