Referring personally to the Greek prime minister, Donald Trump used warm characterizations, describing him as a “terrific guy”. It is noted that in his interview with Breitbart, Kyriakos Mitsotakis had placed particular emphasis on the imperative need to find a common component between the United States and Iran. According to the prime minister, such an agreement is deemed necessary in order to end the hostilities in the Middle East and restore the necessary balance in the international energy markets.

In addition, Mr. Mitsotakis did not fail to express his optimism that the US president will manage to reach a compromise solution with Tehran, which will ensure, among other things, the free opening of the Straits of Hormuz. In the same context, he also referred to a future visit of Donald Trump to Greece, noting with emphasis that the American president “will have a great time” during his stay in the country.
For his part, journalist Matthew Boyle, who spoke with the Greek prime minister, noted that this particular position comes a year after Mr. Mitsotakis’ prediction about US-EU trade relations. At the time, despite the imposition of tariffs by the Trump administration, the prime minister had estimated that the two sides would soon reach a mutually beneficial agreement (“win-win”). This assessment was fully confirmed a few months later, when the American president and Ursula von der Leyen signed the relevant agreement.
