Pope calls for global abolition of death penalty

Vatican City/Chicago – Pope Leo XIV is pushing for the worldwide abolition of the death penalty. According to Church teaching, this is inadmissible “because it represents an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person,” said the Pope in a video message on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the abolition of the death penalty in the US state of Illinois, as Kathpress reported.
