PT softens ideas in manifesto in search of support for Lula – 04/26/2026 – Politics

The PT approved three documents at its party congress, in votes concluded this Sunday (26), including a manifesto that reduces the tone of criticism of the Judiciary and that makes nods to the political center to attract support for Lula’s re-election.

In addition to the Justice system, the demonstrations touch on topics such as economic policy. The party also advocates, in these demonstrations, more funding for social assistance, increased taxes on bets and zero fares on public transport.

The first of the documents contains the general lines of the party’s electoral tactics. The second brings suggestions for guidelines for the government program that the president will present in his re-election campaign. The third, considered the most important by the leadership of the party, is a manifesto. The text softens some proposals contained in other documents.

“The manifesto, in my opinion, its centrality is to speak to the country and call on the center to collaborate with Lula”, said the Minister of Institutional Relations, the PT member.

The PT leadership took action at the party’s meeting to contain the party’s internal disputes and reduce the chances of any of the discussions increasing the weariness of Lula, who will seek a new term in October.

Both the text on electoral tactics and the government program suggestions will still undergo a final review by the party’s national directory, PT leaders said to Sheet. The general lines, however, should not undergo major changes.

The document on electoral tactics advocates a reform of the Justice system as a way of “overcoming the neoliberal logic that prevails in most of the Judiciary’s decisions on issues relating to the economic and social order”. He also talks about ending “promiscuity between judges and businesspeople.” It is still possible that there will be wording changes.

In the manifesto, this part appears in softer words. The text talks about reforming Power “aiming at democratization, self-correction mechanisms and strengthening the Rule of Law.”

The Judiciary is under pressure because of the citations to ministers of the (Federal Supreme Court) and the .

The main examples are , whose wife, Viviane Barci, leads a law firm that ; and, which was, through a family company, an investment fund linked to the former banker, who owned Master.

In the last month, PT members started to act as a way to reduce the political strain caused by the scandal. Lula and his main allies are not at the center of the Master case, but the assessment is that public opinion would still be associating financial fraud with the government.

The PT’s texts on electoral tactics and government program criticize the Central Bank’s policy and mention a “capture” of the institution by the financial system. It also includes the idea of the interest rate remaining in single digits – today, the Selic is at 14.75% per year. The manifesto does not mention the Central Bank or the interest rate.

The PT manifesto mentions the tax reform approved under the Lula government and the taxation of the highest income brackets and online betting sites, bets.

Government program guidelines are more emphatic about bets and gambling applications – known as the “tigrinho game”. The document states that these activities should be prohibited, or at least subject to a higher selective tax than that applied to alcoholic beverages and cigarettes.

Both the manifesto and the government program mention the idea of zeroing public transport fares. Furthermore, the program document defends the approval of the PEC (proposed amendment to the Constitution) which allocates 1% of the Union’s RCL (net current revenue) to SUAS (Single Social Assistance System). The project.

The PT also advocates, including in its manifesto, the universalization of full-time schooling and the reduction of working hours, with the end of the six-day working day for one day of rest.

Other discussions that were planned for the PT congress, such as the reform of the party’s program and its statutes, were postponed until 2027. The meeting was also empty due to Lula’s absence. The president was scheduled to participate, but on Friday (24) and did not return to Brasília, where the party event was held, in time.
