Shooting in the USA: Ronald Reagan was shot outside the same hotel

This was not the first assassination attempt on an American President at the Hilton Hotel in Washington. In March 1981, then President Ronald Reagan was shot outside the hotel. He was hit by John Hinckley Jr. before being able to get to the car.

Reagan was shot in the left armpit. The bullet broke his rib, punctured a lung and caused internal bleeding. The then President was immediately transferred to a hospital for surgery and was discharged the following month.

A police officer, a Secret Service agent and White House press secretary James Brady were also injured.

Brady suffered brain damage and was left disabled. He died in 2014, 33 years after the incident.

On the last night, a armed man where the White House Correspondents’ Dinner took place with Donald Trump, members of both parties and the press. The shooter never entered the ballroom. He was quickly immobilized by security forces.

The suspect is detained and being interrogated. He is scheduled to appear in federal court this Monday.
