They were planning a dream vacation in neighboring Poland, but a small mistake when buying plane tickets changed everything. A family from Italy landed in the Romanian city of Craiova instead of Krakow. writes
An Italian family from the city of Bari planned a vacation in historic Krakow. First they booked flights, then accommodation in a beautiful Polish city and planned all the attractions in detail. Unfortunately, already a subtle but, as it later turned out, crucial error occurred at the stage of booking airline tickets.
As reported by the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, travelers did not pay attention to the similarity of the names of the two cities – Cracovia (Krakow) and Craiova. Even when they saw the name of the destination right at the airport gate, they didn’t realize that they were flying in a completely different direction. Only after landing did it become clear that they were in the Romanian city of Craiova instead of Poland.
The situation was stressful at first, but the family quickly decided to take advantage of the unexpected opportunity to get to know a new place. As they later admitted, the stay in Romania turned out to be extremely successful – they visited Craiova’s biggest attractions and tasted local specialties. They especially liked the traditional dessert papanas – warm fried cheese doughnuts.
This is not the first time that tourists have accidentally ended up in another country. At the end of 2025, another Italian made the exact opposite mistake. He wanted to visit Craiova, Romania, but landed in Krakow. “Despite everything, I’m glad to have seen Krakow, because I’ve been dreaming about it for a long time,” he admitted with a smile at the time.
