Two 22-year-old twin brothers died electrocuted in the city of Magione, in central Italy, after a accidental touching electrical wires with a metal rod, while training pet birds for a hunting season.

According to the first investigations, the young people left home around 8pm last Wednesday to remove some pigeons from a hunting shelterclose to a power transmission tower.
According to the ANSA agency, authorities suspect that the brothers were preparing the birds for use as bait in the next hunting season of the wood pigeon, a practice that is quite widespread in the Umbria region, where Magione is located, and which is criticized by environmentalists.
One of the birds may have perched on electrical wires with a current of 20 thousand volts, at a height of about 10 meters. To try to make him come down, one of the twins used a metal rod and was shot dead after the bat touches the cables.
The other twin tried to help his brotherbut he also ended up being hit by the electrical discharge. Both died at the sceneand the bodies were found by the father and an uncle around midnight.
According to the local newspaper, the two young people were found by their uncle, when there was nothing left to do.
The two young men were well known, worked in the family business and they had a great passion for nature. Parents, colleagues and friends described them as exceptional, happy and smiling people. “We are shocked by what happened. It’s something unimaginable”, lamented the mayor of Magione, Massimo Lagettiwho knew the twins personally. “They were two spectacular boys, they worked very hard, always very affable. It’s a tragedy that’s hard to accept“, he added.
The governor of the Umbria region, Stefania Proiettialso expressed regret over the death of the two brothers, in an official note cited by ANSA.
“At this moment of immense pain for two young lives taken, the regional administration expresses its solidarity with an emotional hug to the family affected by this painful loss and to the community, sharing the suffering for this unfair loss that causes great consternation throughout the Umbro territory”, says the note.
They were born together, they died tragically, also together.
