Germany arms for more than a billion euros. The army ordered modern equipment for thousands of soldiers

The German army ordered modern equipment for infantry from Rheinmetall for 1.04 billion euros. It is part of the massive armament after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Germany’s armed forces have ordered 1.04 billion euros worth of infantry equipment from Rheinmetall, the arms company said on Monday, amid an increase in Berlin’s military spending. TASR informs about it according to the report of the DPA agency.

  • The German armed forces ordered infantry equipment from Rheinmetall for 1.04 billion euros.
  • The order includes bulletproof vests, uniforms and night vision equipment.
  • The system allows commanders to monitor the positions of their own forces in real time.

The order includes bulletproof vests, uniforms or night vision devices that can be attached to helmets, weapons or military tablets informing about possible enemy positions. The system is also equipped with software that allows commanders to monitor the positions of their own forces in real time. Weapons are not part of the order.

Delivery from 2027

Equipment for around 8,600 soldiers could be delivered from November 2027 to around December 2029. The order is part of a wider framework agreement for 3.1 billion euros.

The digital connection of infantry units is becoming more and more important in modern military conflict, as it enables coordination with satellites, drones, tanks and artillery and provides soldiers with quick information on enemy movements, writes DPA.

Rheinmetall’s record orders

Due to heightened concerns about defense capabilities following the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Rheinmetall has seen a record number of orders in recent years, boosted by increased German defense spending on tanks, ammunition and satellites.
