“Democracy does not exist in Maranhão”, says Renan Santos

Mission leader criticizes the political class and says that “the population of Maranhão needs intervention”

The pre-candidate for President for the Missão party, stated this Monday (April 27, 2026) that Maranhão lives under an exceptional political regime. According to the founder of MBL (Movimento Brasil Livre), the local ruling class acts in a predatory manner.

During an interview with the program “Face to face”produced by Folha de S.Paulo and through the portal UolRenan declared that the State needs a deep structural intervention to break with what he called “parasitic elites”.

“Democracy does not exist in Maranhão. I truly believe that the population of Maranhão needs intervention. The political class there is parasitic”said the pre-candidate, who suggested the adoption of extreme changes to the federative pact. Among them, Renan wants to prevent citizens from municipalities that do not meet minimum indicators of development and public services from exercising their right to vote. According to him, this would be a way of putting pressure on local management for more efficiency.

Renan’s strategy to make his candidacy viable in 2026 is to focus primarily on young voters, specifically men up to 24 years old. He is currently holding a road caravan across the country, financed by donations from supporters with the aim of increasing his exposure to the public. According to him, the main opponent at this stage of the campaign is the common voter’s lack of knowledge about his platform.

SECURITY AND JUSTICE

In the field of public security, the Mission leader defends an agenda of “law and order” inspired by international models for combating organized crime. He proposes the decree of a state of defense in territories dominated by criminal factions and the implementation of what he classifies as a “criminal law of the oppressed”. The thesis foresees the application of significantly more brutal and severe penalties against those he defines as “enemies of the State”.

Asked about the death penalty, Renan stated that the punishment is already a daily reality in several Brazilian outskirts under the control of criminal groups. “We already have the death penalty in Brazil, in the criminal court”he argued, defending that the State resumes its monopoly on the use of force with greater legal and police rigor.

Regarding the former president’s legal situation, the pre-candidate stated that he is not in favor of granting an amnesty for the crimes being investigated, but defended that the Judiciary applies a balanced dosimetry of penalties. Renan took the opportunity to criticize potential opponents on the right, such as the governor of Goiás, (PSD), whom he called “ass kiss” of the former president. It also sought to move away from niche internet movements, classifying misogynistic culture redpill like something rough.

ECONOMY AND REFORMS

The pre-candidate’s economic platform is based on a fiscal reform that prevents what he calls “electoral fraud”. Renan argues that the readjustment of the minimum wage and pensions be linked exclusively to official inflation indices, without real gains that could “compromise” the stability of public accounts. He advocates a drastic reduction in the size of the administrative machine, the total digitalization of public services and the end of what he calls the privileges of senior civil servants.

The businessman wants to present himself as an option to break with the (PT) government and the (PL) group, under the allegation that both represent an exhausted political system. During the program, Renan avoided commenting on the trajectory of Arthur do Val, a former ally in the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo.

The Missão party is preparing for its first presidential contest. The party counts on the direct collaboration of congressmen such as federal deputy Kim Kataguiri (Missão-SP), who works to build regional bases to support Renan’s journey across the country. The pre-candidate reaffirmed that his campaign will be guided by the “naked truth”, even if this means defending controversial proposals about the federative system and the functioning of institutions.
