The spokesman for Iranian diplomacy, Esmail Bakayi, sharply criticized the United States for the detention of oil tankers and the naval blockade, which he described as state-sanctified piracy. While the US is trying to cripple Iran economically by restricting the export of raw materials, Tehran is countering by blocking the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

- The spokesman for Iranian diplomacy, Esmáil Bakaji, accused the United States of maritime piracy.
- Bakájí described the US actions against tankers as legalized armed robbery at sea.
- Washington is trying to limit Iran’s income from oil exports through the blockade.
- Iran responds by restricting shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
“This is the complete legalization of piracy and armed robbery on the high seas,” Bakájí wrote on the X social network. He added that the US action means “the return of pirates – but now they operate on the basis of government-issued arrest warrants.”
Blockade of tankers and restrictions in Hormuz
While negotiations between the United States and Iran to end the conflict have stalled, Washington has been trying to put pressure on Tehran through a naval blockade and the detention of vessels going to or from Iranian ports in an attempt to limit revenue from oil exports.
Iran continues to restrict navigation through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The strait is a key transit route for oil and gas exports from the Gulf states and is extremely important for global energy supplies.
