LONDON, April 29 (Reuters) – British police have arrested a man after two people were stabbed in an area of north London with a large Jewish population, a community organization said on Wednesday, amid a recent wave of anti-Semitic attacks in the capital.
The Jewish organization Shomrim claimed on X that a man was seen running with a knife in Golders Green and trying to stab Jewish members of the public, before police officers detained him.
Police used a taser to detain him, the group added. London’s Metropolitan Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Prime Minister Keir Starmer told the House of Commons the incident was ‘deeply concerning’.

Photos from the scene posted online showed emergency services officers standing over what appeared to be a victim lying in the street. The Shomrim group said the two stabbing victims were being treated.
ARCH ATTACKS ON SYNAGOGUES
Over the past month, London police have arrested more than two dozen people as part of investigations into attacks on Jewish sites, including the burning of ambulances and attempted arson attacks on synagogues.
Police said they were investigating possible Iranian links to some of the incidents, and the pro-Iranian group Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiyya claimed some of the latest attacks on social media.
Authorities have recently warned that Iran has sought to use criminal proxies to carry out hostile activities in the UK.
This warning comes at a time when anti-Semitic attacks have been on the rise in the UK, since the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023, which triggered the war in Gaza.

The most serious anti-Semitic incident last year was the attack in Manchester, which killed two Jewish worshipers during Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
