The Argentine goalkeeper of Spanish second division team Zaragoza, Esteban Andrada, received a 13-match suspension for punching a Huesca opponent.
The Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary body punished Andrada with a “12-game suspension for attacking another person”, to which an additional match was added due to the red card he received during the game against Huesca last Sunday.
The 35-year-old goalkeeper, who saved Boca Juniors’ goal in the 2018 Copa Libertadores final, lost to River Plate, was sent off for pushing Jorge Pulido. However, he immediately advanced towards his rival and threw a punch, causing a commotion between players from both teams.
Huesca, playing at home, managed to maintain its advantage and secured a 1-0 victory in the regional classic between the two teams, who are fighting to avoid relegation.
Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jiménez and Zaragoza player Dani Tasende were also sent off afterwards.
Jiménez received a four-match ban, also for assault, while Tasende was suspended for two games.
Andrada, who was loaned by Mexico’s Monterrey, expressed his “deep regret” in a video published on Zaragoza’s website.
“This doesn’t look good on anyone. It was an extreme situation. I lost my temper and reacted that way,” added Andrada, who apologized to Jorge Pulido.
