They come from Asia, but they completely dominate Polish gardens. Hydrangeas are a lasting trend in our country. We like to plant them in home gardens and allotments. . In Poland, bouquet, garden or climbing hydrangeas are most often grown. These shrubs have a very long flowering period and, depending on the species, they bloom from June even to October.

The basis for hydrangea care is proper soil and regular fertilization. These shrubs grow best in slightly acidic soil with a pH of 4.5–6.0. It is important that it is fertile, permeable and constantly moist. Hydrangeas are very sensitive to interruptions in watering and do not tolerate drought well. It is not without reason that their Latin name hydrangea comes from the Latin word for water. Lack of access to water causes the plant to die quickly. Hydrangeas are starting to fade and dry leaves are starting to appear. If you grow hydrangeas on your plot or in your garden, remember to keep the soil constantly moist. During hot weather, avoid soaking leaves and flowers. The harsh sun can burn and destroy them.

One of the most important rules in spring is fertilization. At this time, the bushes begin the growing season, growing intensively and getting ready to flower. In spring, it is recommended to use nutrients with a high nitrogen content. This element takes part in the processes of photosynthesis and affects the development of leaves and the abundance of flowering. One simpler way is to bury fertilizer around the roots. For this purpose, an organic conditioner made from banana peels works best. Just take 2 banana peels, dry them well (to reduce the risk of decay and mold) and cut them into small pieces. Then grab a shovel and bury the banana peels around the hydrangea roots. They contain potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen, which they gradually release into the soil. Thanks to this, hydrangeas have regular access to the nutrients they need. Buried banana peels will not replace classic fertilization, but they will strengthen it and make hydrangeas grow better.

How to water hydrangeas properly?

One of the most common mistakes made when watering hydrangeas is too shallow and frequent irrigation. Instead of providing small amounts of water every day, which favors the development of a shallow root system, it is better to water less frequently, but abundantly. Another trap is wetting the leaves and flowers, which can lead to the development of fungal diseases such as powdery mildew or leaf spot. Also remember not to allow the substrate to dry out completely.
