The senator (PSB-MS) presented a dejected expression after the nomination of Jorge Messias’ name to the Federal Supreme Court. The defeat, suffered in the Senate plenary this Thursday (April 30, 2026), represented a setback for the government after weeks of articulation. Images from TV Senado showed the congresswoman’s face when the score was announced: 34 votes in favor and 42 against.
Soraya was elected in 2018 with the slogan “Bolsonaro’s senator”, but broke with the former president and started voting with the government in 2024. In April 2026, he officially joined the PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party) to establish alliances with PT members in Mato Grosso do Sul.

During the hearing, the senator followed the defense of the Union’s attorney general, and published messages of support on her social media profiles. On that occasion, he made a direct appeal to Messiah: “And when you put on your toga, don’t forget your friends”.
In previous statements, the congresswoman wished the nominee luck if he took up his seat on the Court. However, the plenary session surprised the allied base and highlighted the Senate’s resistance to the name of Messias, read by senators as a direct representative of Lula’s interests in the STF.
