In his speech, Khamenei has defended that Iran, with its control over it, will guarantee regional security and put an end to what he considers abuses. Furthermore, he has stated that a “new management” will bring stability and economic benefits to all surrounding countries.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, through practical gratitude for the blessing of exercising management over the Strait of Hormuz, will ensure the security of the Persian Gulf region and dismantle the enemy’s carpets of abuse in this sea lane,” he said.

“The legal regulations and the application of a new management of the strait will forge tranquility and progress for the benefit of all nations in the region, and its economic blessings will gladden the hearts of the people,” he added in his speech.

The announcement comes after two months of conflict in the regionwith the Strait of Hormuz as the main pressure channel. About 20% of the world’s oil passed through there before the situation got complicated. Now, traffic is down and prices are up.
