Trump sees ceasefire in Ukraine soon and says war could end before Iran

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Wednesday, 29, that he believes that the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, could announce “a small ceasefire” in the war with Ukraine soon and suggested that the conflict could end in a similar timeframe, or even before, to the war between the USA-Israel and Iran. When asked which war would end first, however, he replied: “Maybe in similar timetables”.

Trump said he spoke with Putin about Ukraine and Iran earlier and called the dialogue “a great conversation.” According to him, he told the Russian leader that he preferred Moscow to help end the war in Ukraine and added that Putin “does seem to want to end the war.”

Regarding Iran, Trump stated that the country still maintains “a small percentage” of its missile manufacturing facilities, but said that the Iranian economy is “crumbling”, with a “worthless” currency and high inflation.

The Republican reiterated that “all Iran needs to do to end the war is surrender” and stated that there will never be an agreement with the Persian country without a commitment not to develop nuclear weapons. Despite the tough tone, he said that Washington and Tehran are still talking by phone and that “we are in negotiations with them now”.

Trump also praised the American maritime blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, calling the measure “genius” and “foolproof”.

Trump celebrated the United Arab Emirates’ exit from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), calling it “great” and that it will help reduce gasoline and oil prices. Yesterday, Capital Economics assessed that the decision brings Abu Dhabi closer to the USA and Israel.

In monetary policy, minutes after the Federal Reserve (Fed) kept interest rates unchanged in the range of 3.50% to 3.75%, Trump once again pressed for easing and said that “now is a great time to reduce interest rates”, arguing that the country is a destination for “large investments”.
