Secretary General of the Service Office of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic Lukáš Machala (52) on Wednesday at his announced that started the “tour de Slovakia” of the facilities operated by the cultural centers. His first stop was at the New Synagogue in Žilina. “I just want to say that this is basically such a typical example of our independent cultural scene. They look like cultural centers, but basically it’s a cafe,” he said in the video and continued.
“The gentleman behind me there is wiping some tables, preparing chairs for a nice sitting for cultural employees of non-governmental organizations who for years they have been milking the Art Support Fund and pretending to be independent artists. We have dozens of such centers in Slovakia, and we will present them all to you so that you know where your taxes are going. They don’t go to culture, they go to cafes like this,” he concluded.
The singer Katarína Koščová (44), who had a concert that very evening in the New Synagogue, immediately responded to his words. “The fact that they gave 140,000 to a cafe in a shopping center is perfectly fine, we don’t need to talk about that, do we? All over the world there are cafes in cultural centers where people can sit while admiring art, for example, or they come to some cultural event, because that’s normal, it’s pleasant,” said the winner of the first SuperStar.
In the video, she further argued that even in the Slovak National Theater food and drinks are sold during intermissions, and she virtually guided her followers through the space. “Please, this is a hall that Mr. Machala has not even entered. He claims that the whole cultural center is just a cafe where your money goes. So I want to show you that he is lying and he is doing it knowingly to make you angry. So that you will be happy that the money is no longer poured into those bad cultural centers,” she explained.
“Here are different works of art, just so you understand. There was even a book festival here in the morning, but Mr. Machala probably didn’t notice it.
