Ukrainian Kostjuk wins first WTA 1000 title in Madrid


Madrid – Marta Kostjuk was crowned winner at the WTA 1000 level for the first time on Sunday. The No. 26 seeded Ukrainian, who stopped Austria’s Anastasia Potapova’s successful run in the semi-finals, defeated Linz winner Mirra Andrejewa from Russia after 81 minutes 6:3,7:5. Kostjuk will appear in the top 15 for the first time on Monday in 15th place and collected a winner’s check worth 1.007 million euros. For the 23-year-old, it was the second tournament victory en suite after Rouen.
