The total value of weapons exceeds US$8 billion (around R$40 billion). They include air defense systems for the Kuwait and the Qatare laser guided missiles for the Qataros United Arab Emirates e Israel.
Sales to Qatar include Patriot missiles. An April report from the (CSIS) Center for Strategic and International Studies found that U.S. stockpiles of Patriot missiles had been significantly depleted by weeks of war with Iran.
In justifying the State Department’s decision to bypass Congress to approve arms sales, each statement states that Secretary of State Marco Rubio, “has determined and provided detailed justification that an emergency exists requiring immediate sale” of weapons to countries.
It is not the first time since the start of the war with Iran that the American government has cited an emergency to waive congressional review of arms sales.
In early March, the State Department made the emergency decision to bypass Congress and immediately sell 12,000 bombs for Israel.
Later that month, Rubio declared a state of emergency and accelerated a multimillion-dollar arms sale to the United Arab Emirates and the Kuwaitalong with air and ammunition support for the Jordan.
