National president of DC (Christian Democracy), João Caldas says he has barred membership to the party of the former governor of Rio, who seeks to return to office in the October election.
“He did everything to join the party, he called, held a meeting. But I said no, there are already a lot of crazy people in the party”,
Witzel was surprisingly elected governor in 2018, in the Bolsonarist wave, but quickly distanced himself from the then president. He was impeached in 2021, accused of fraud in the purchase of respirators during the pandemic.
The former governor was close to joining the DC, and would be the With the veto, however, he ended up joining the Democrat Party, the new name of the former Brazilian Women’s Party (PMB).
