Washington is losing room for maneuver. Iranian guards talk about bad decision-making by President Trump

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Sunday that US President Donald Trump must choose between an unworkable military operation or a bad deal with Iran, pointing to a “change in tone” by China, Russia and Europe towards Washington. “The maneuvering space of the United States is now limited,” the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement broadcast on Iranian state television, Le Monde added.

  • According to Iran, the US has limited room for maneuver.
  • Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have called on Trump to make a decision on Iran.
  • Trump is considering Iran’s proposal but is skeptical of acceptance.

In the statement, the IRGC also referred to Iran’s “ultimatum” regarding the US blockade of Iranian ports and the need for the United States to “accept Iran’s terms of negotiations”. Trump said Sunday night that he would assess Iran’s latest proposal to end the conflict. However, he also questioned its acceptance and warned that there is still a possibility of renewed attacks on the Islamic Republic.

A senior Iranian official warned on Saturday that Tehran’s proposal, which Trump has so far rejected, would reopen shipping in the strategic Strait of Hormuz and end the blockade of Iranian ports, while postponing talks on its nuclear program.

Iran has not paid enough, Trump claims

“They told me about the concept of the agreement. They will give me the exact wording now,” Trump said when asked by reporters. At the same time, he said on the social network that he could not imagine accepting the proposal and that, according to him, Iran had not yet paid a sufficient price “for what it has done to humanity and the world in the last 47 years.”

Trump has repeatedly said that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons. On Friday, he declared that he was not satisfied with Tehran’s latest proposal. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said his country was ready for diplomacy if the United States changed its approach. Although Trump, according to his own words, is in no rush on the issue of Iran, he is under domestic pressure to ease the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, his Republican Party is in danger of losing voter support in the November congressional elections.

Iranian media reported that Tehran’s proposal contains 14 points, including the withdrawal of US troops from the region, the lifting of blockades, the release of frozen Iranian finances, the payment of compensation, the lifting of sanctions and the end of the conflict on several fronts, including Lebanon, as well as a new control mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz.
