Roberto Cidade is elected governor of AM in indirect voting

Legislative Assembly chose new head of the state Executive after Wilson Lima and vice president resigned in April

This Monday (May 4, 2026), Amazonas state deputies elected Roberto Cidade (União Brasil) governor of the State until January 2027, in an indirect vote held at the (Amazonas Legislative Assembly). The vice-elect is Serafim Corrêa (PSB). The session started around 50 minutes late.

Plate 2 received 24 votes from state deputies, in a unanimous vote with no abstentions. The inauguration is scheduled for 5 pm, in the plenary.

To win in the 1st round, the ticket would need to obtain an absolute majority of votes, that is, at least 13 of the 24 deputies.

The election was called after the resignation of then governor Wilson Lima (União Brasil) and vice Tadeu de Souza (Progressistas), in early April.

The vote marks the 1st indirect election for the government of Amazonas. The state Constitution projects that, in the event of vacancy in positions in the last 2 years of the term, the choice of the new head of the Executive will be made by the Legislature.

Five candidates competed in the election:

Plate 1: William Bittar (PSDB), governor, and João Ricardo (PL), vice;
Plate 2: Roberto Cidade (União Brasil), governor, and Serafim Corrêa (PSB), vice president;
Plate 3: Cícero Alencar (Christian Democracy), governor, and Roque Marinho (Christian Democracy), vice president;
Plate 4: Sérgio Bezerra (New), governor, and Audriclea Viana (New), vice;
Plate 5: Daniel Araújo (PT), governor, and Daiane Araújo (PT), vice.
