For the Ukrainian president, the fears of Vladimir Putin, who has increased his personal security, show that Russia is no longer what it was
Vladimir Putin, the date on which Russia celebrates victory over Nazi Germany, and he has reason to do so: Volodymyr Zelensky has just admitted to several world leaders that “Ukrainian drones can hit the parade”.
The statement was made at the opening of the 8th Summit of the European Political Community, in Yerevan, Armenia, this Monday.
For Zelensky, Putin’s fears, which show that Russia is no longer what it was.
“Russia announced a parade on May 9, but there will be no military equipment in that parade. It will be the first time in many, many years that there will not be the presence of weapons”, pointed out the Ukrainian president, also stressing: “And Ukrainian drones can hit this parade. This shows that Russia is no longer as strong as before.”
The summer, Zelensky also indicated, could be decisive for the future of the war, with the president of Ukraine insisting that pressure on Moscow cannot be eased, whether at diplomatic or sanctions level.
“This summer will be the time when [Vladimir] Putin decides what to do next: expand this war or move towards diplomacy. And we have to pressure him into diplomacy. And we have to continue applying pressure with sanctions, precisely because they affect Russian oil, industry and banks. We have to maintain this pressure and push Russia towards diplomatic solutions. The idea of lifting sanctions is unacceptable”, he argues.
The war in Iran has given new life to Russian oil, but in recent weeks Ukraine has intensified attacks on military and energy infrastructure, with great success.
According to Zelensky, Ukraine is, at this moment, capable of producing the full range of defense systems necessary to protect itself, and even sharing this technology with its allies, given the unpredictability of the United States and Washington, DC’s own needs regarding the war with Iran.
“Ukraine can produce everything it needs to defend itself independently against ballistic and missile attacks. We offer Europe our drone technologies to unite all countries”, he highlighted.
