We all know that smoking is bad, but tobacco continues to kill 12,000 people a year. Breathing exercises, taking breaks from work and eating carrot sticks are some strategies to avoid missing cigarettes. In this ‘Open Consultation’, doctor Margarida Graça Santos talks to smoking cessation specialist Joana Matos Branco to discover the best ways to quit smoking
Saying that smoking is bad for your health is nothing new. Still, tobacco consumption has increased. It is estimated that approximately 20% of the adult population in Portugal smokes. Almost 12,000 people die annually from tobacco.
But if we all know that smoking is bad, why is it so difficult to give up this habit? And how the tobacco industry has managed to reinvent itself to continue to encourage people to try new forms of tobacco, such as vaping and heated tobacco?
To talk about smoking and, more importantly, how to stop smoking, we bring to the podcast the family doctor and coordinator of the Intensive Support Consultation for Smoking Cessation in Amadora-Sintra, Joana Matos Branco.
