The remains of a Portuguese citizen were found inside a crocodile in South Africa. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the man in question is Gabriel Batista.
Days earlier, the South African police had released this video, which shows an agent descending into a river in a daring operation to recover the remains.
Captain Johan “Pottie” Potgieter went down alone into a “crocodile-infested river” to rescue the sacrificed animal in an “extremely dangerous and complex operation”, the South African Police Service said in a statement on Sunday.
The crocodile was lifted to safety and transported by helicopter, allowing specialized teams to recover the remains of the missing person, who was confirmed to be Gabriel Batista, in the Komati River, in Mpumalanga province, the statement added.
