In the city of Sinzig in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, a hostage drama has been going on since Friday morning in a Volksbank branch. Several persons are being held hostage in its building, TASR informs based on reports from the DPA agency and Bild newspaper.
The incident was reported to the police around 09:00. At the moment when the money transport vehicle arrived in front of the bank on Am Markt, an unknown man approached the driver and forced him to enter the bank. The police believe that there are several armed criminals inside who are detaining several other people, including bank employees.
Police declined to release further details for tactical reasons. She described the current situation as “static” and “stable”. The SEK special police unit intervenes on the spot, the area around the branch is closed and helicopters are circling above the city.
The police urged residents to avoid the city center and not to spread unverified information on social networks. According to her, there is currently no danger to the public outside the closed zone. Sinzig lies on the lower reaches of the Ahr River approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Bonn.
