An international study, with Portuguese researchers, shows that white sharks may flee towards the poles, in search of colder waters.
Or famous White shark will be one of the most threatened species. This warm-blooded predator can maintain a body temperature higher than the temperature of the water surrounding it and is therefore called mesothermal.
A Portuguese team that took part in this research tagged sharks in the Azores.
O study also helped to understand that, with the rise in ocean temperatures, these fish have greater difficulty cooling their bodieswhich will require changes in behavior and even a different geographic distribution.
This international study, now published in Sciense, further demonstrates that size also matters.
These larger mesothermal fish retain more heat than smaller ones and may have more problems with ocean warming.
The team will now assess that behaviors will these warm-blooded sharks and tuna taker. If they go dive deeper, escape to the poles and cooler waters or slow down which made them also top predators.
For this, two devices will be placedone of them to follow all movements for a year.
