STJ makes defendant judge accused of selling sentences

O judge Ivo de Almeida was reported by the PGR (Attorney General’s Office) to the Special Court of the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), last Wednesday (6), for alleged involvement in a sentence selling scheme.

With this, the MPF (Federal Public Ministry) informed in an official statement that the judge, who was part of the STJ, for the accusations.

The agency also announced that three other people were also reported and are identified as members of the . The MPF investigates that they allegedly worked in in favor of those investigated in cases.

For the Ministry, Ivo de Almeida used his position to benefit those being investigated, even through interventions with police authorities and accessing confidential informationosas.

The facts discovered took place between 2019 e 2022involving an alleged practice of passive corruption, money laundering, administrative law and criminal association.

The MPF also asked the maintenance of the magistrate’s removal until the final judgment of the criminal case.

The judge’s defense informed the CNN Brazil who receives the decision with respect, but strongly disagrees with the content. Furthermore, the investigation elements show undue exploitation of Ivo’s name by third parties without his knowledge.

The STJ, the MPF and the TJ (Court of Justice) inform that, as the case is under judicial secrecy, it is not possible to provide further information.
