Israeli strikes in Gaza killed at least three people, doctors say

Israeli strikes killed at least three Palestinians in Gaza on Sunday, including two members of the Hamas-controlled police force, health officials said. The wave of violence highlighted the fragility of the ceasefire brokered by the United States.

According to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Interior Ministry, an airstrike killed one person in the Maghazi refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, while another killed the head of the Khan Younis criminal police, Wessam Abdel-Hadi, and his assistant.

Reuters has previously reported that Israel has intensified its attacks on the Hamas police force, which the militants have used to re-establish governance in areas under their control.

The Israeli Armed Forces did not immediately comment on either attack.

Violence in Gaza persists despite, with Israel carrying out almost daily attacks.

At least 850 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire came into effect, according to local doctors, while Israel says militants have killed four of its soldiers in the same period.

Israel and Hamas accused each other.

More than 72,500 Palestinians have been killed since the war in Gaza began in October 2023, according to Gaza health authorities, most of them civilians.
