The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, stated this Sunday, 10, that Paris “never considered” sending naval forces to the Strait of Hormuz, advocating instead a coordinated security approach that includes Iran.
“There was never any question about a military deployment, but we are ready,” Macron said at a press conference in Nairobi, Kenya.
Macron also said that France opposes any blockade of the waterway, regardless of whether it is imposed by the United States or Iran, and rejects the collection of tolls in the region to guarantee freedom of navigation.

He added that France helped build a mission for this together with the United Kingdom, bringing together around 50 countries and international organizations to support maritime security.
“We built a mission, together with the British, that brought together 50 countries and international organizations to make it possible, in coordination with Iran and through the reduction of tensions with all countries in the region and the United States, to ensure, as soon as conditions allow, the resumption of maritime traffic,” said Macron.
Earlier, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that French and British warships in the Strait of Hormuz, potentially supporting illegal US actions, will face a response. According to him, the sending of warships close to the Strait of Hormuz under the pretext of “protecting navigation” increases the crisis.
