Right-wing pre-candidates criticized the decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), who suspended the application of the Dosimetry Law until the analysis of the text is completed by the Court. Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) and Romeu Zema (Novo) released positions this Saturday targeting the magistrate.
Moraes’ decision was taken within the scope of a criminal execution related to a person convicted of the acts of January 8, and not directly in the actions that question the validity of the dosimetry law. In the order, the minister states that the presentation of actions by the Brazilian Press Association (ABI) and the Psol/Rede federation — both questioning the constitutionality of the law — constitutes a “new and relevant procedural fact”, recommending the suspension of the application of the rule “for legal certainty” until a definition by the collegiate.
The measure, however, does not provide any indication as to when the merits of the actions will be analyzed by the Court. Even among parliamentarians critical of the law, there are those who advocate caution when interpreting the scope of the decision, thus avoiding hasty conclusions about the ministers’ possible inclination.

In a press conference that preceded the event to launch the PL’s thoroughbred ticket in Santa Catarina, Flávio classified the determination as a “bureaucratic swipe” by the magistrate against a decision taken by Congress.
— It seems, once again, like a combined game; once again it is democracy that is shaken. It is a decision of the National Congress, in its vast majority, defending the amnesty law, which, in a monocratic stroke of the pen, once again, the Supreme Minister revokes the decision of us, the true representatives of the people. But Brazil seems to be getting used to this, but we won’t get used to it — said Flávio.
Romeu Zema, who has grown on social media with attacks on the Supreme Court, also spoke out. He stated that Moraes “considers himself untouchable” and “tramples Congress”.
“Without having received a single vote, it disrespects representatives elected by the people and increases the suffering of prisoners who have been persecuted for years by a justice system that should protect them,” he stated.
Ronaldo Caiado published a note saying that the suspension of the law “is an attack on democracy and the separation of Powers” and “a deplorable decision in which Minister Alexandre de Moraes exceeds the limits of the institutional relationship”.
“Stimulating an endless debate about the 8th of January, bypassing the representatives elected by the people to Congress, is condemning Brazil to have no future. This struggle between the Supreme Court and Congress needs to come to an end. This game of cat and mouse, this to-do and undo, is unacceptable in a democracy that we want to be mature”, he stated.

Government praises decision
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who vetoed the law and did not sanction it even after the veto was overturned by Congress, did not comment on Moraes’ decision. Parliamentarians from the government base, however, celebrated the magistrate’s decision.
Federal deputy Gleisi Hoffmann (PT/PR) stated on social media that “Minister Alexandre de Moraes’ decisions maintaining the full execution of sentences for convicted coup plotters show that the reversal of amnesty/reduction of sentences was not consummated with the overturning of President Lula’s veto on the shameful project”.
“The agreement to benefit Jair Bolsonaro and his accomplices is not above the Constitution. And that is what the STF will decide”, he stated.
