Inflation slows to 0.67% in April, points out IBGE

Index was driven by the Food and Health Products groups; accumulated rate in 12 months was 4.39%

O Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) closed April with high of 0.67%compared to an increase of 0.88% in March, reported this Tuesday (12) the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

April’s inflation was identical to the median of the Projeções Broadcast survey. The range of estimates, all high, ranged from 0.56% to 0.79%.

The prices of food e drinks increased 1,34% in April, after an increase of 1.56% in March. The group made a positive contribution of 0.29 percentage points to the IPCA, which rose 0.67% in the month.

Among the group’s components, the food at home was discharged from 1,64% in April, after having advanced 1.94% in the previous month. THE eating outside the home rose 0,59%compared to an increase of 0.61% in March.

“Some foods, in general, have a supply restriction, which causes an increase in the price level. In the case of milk, with the arrival of drier, seasonal weather in the period, there is a reduction in pasture, necessitating the inclusion of animal feed, which increases costs. We cannot fail to mention the increase in the price of fuel, which affects the final price of food due to the cost of shipping”, stated the IPCA manager, José Fernando Gonçalves, in a note.

No group health and personal carea alta was from 1,16% and the 0.16 pp impact on the month’s index. According to Fernando Gonçalves, one of the highlights was the readjustment of medications, approved from April, with a limit of up to 5.09% in 2025 and 3.81% in 2026.

Estadão/Broadcast calculates the impact of each group on the IPCA based on the monthly variation and monthly weight available in the IBGE Automatic Recovery System (Sidra). The result may have specific differences with the impact published by IBGE, which considers more decimal places than those publicly available in the rate of each item.

The prices of transport rose 0,06% in April, after an increase of 1.64% in March. The group made a positive contribution of 0.01 percentage point to the IPCA, which rose 0.67% in the month.

The prices of fuels had alta of 1,80% in April, after an increase of 4.47% in the previous month. THE Gasoline rose 1,86%after having registered an increase of 4.59% in March, while ethanol advanced 0.62% in this reading, after rising 0.93% in the last one.
