Grigory Sokolov’s concerts are journeys into ideal worlds. You do this almost entirely with your sense of hearing, as the hall lighting is always in twilight mode. The Russian’s musical lectures purr (almost) accident-free and with high tempo discipline and are reminiscent of model trains that glide on rails through meticulously designed, picturesque landscapes. The interpretive parameters such as dynamics, agogics and articulation, timbre and voice balance are in constantly changing and yet always perfect relationships to one another.
