Family restaurants continue to be present in various areas of the Algarve, especially those that have maintained their own identity over the years. Between fresh fish menus, Mediterranean dishes and menus designed for different audiences, there are spaces that continue to attract customers both for their cuisine and their prices.

In the Algarve, one of these examples is the Vila Nova restaurant, created in the 90s near Carvoeiro, and which maintains an offer focused on fish, meat and international cuisine. According to the restaurant’s website, the space was created in 1993 on the initiative of Aníbal and Isabel Raposo, and has since had the collaboration of chef Fred.

Menu that combines fish, meat and vegetarian options

The restaurant’s cuisine features Mediterranean and international-inspired dishes, including vegetarian alternatives, gluten-free options and a children’s menu. There is also a take-away service and snacks prepared daily with fresh ingredients.

Among the hot starters available are options such as vegetable soup and tomato soup for five euros, while fish soup costs six euros. Portuguese style mussels are available for 10 euros, alongside starters such as mushrooms with garlic butter for the same price.

There are fish dishes that remain below 20 euros

The menu dedicated to fish includes several house specialties. The grilled swordfish with almonds is listed for 19 euros, while the papillote salmon costs 18 euros. The same source mentions that the sea bass and shrimp supreme is available for 22 euros.

Seafood lovers will find alternatives, such as shrimp with garlic butter, for 22 euros, and monkfish skewers, for 25 euros. The restaurant also offers fish of the day, the choice of which varies according to availability.

International cuisine continues to be present

The international component of the menu is also reflected in the meat dishes. The chicken massala costs 17 euros and shares space with the turkey escalopes in blue cheese sauce, available for the same price. The website explains that there are other options, namely pork tenderloin with Madeira wine sauce, for 18 euros.

The same section features more traditional dishes, such as Portuguese steak, for 23 euros, or grilled lamb chops, available for the same price. According to the same source, the grilled tornadó with different sauces is the most expensive dish on the menu, reaching 30 euros.

The restaurant also maintains a menu area aimed at children. Suggestions include spaghetti bolognese, burger with fries, fish fingers and chicken nuggets, all available for eight euros.

It is worth noting that the space seeks to offer a relaxed atmosphere, accompanied by cocktails and freshly prepared dishes. The restaurant’s concept is to provide “moments of tasting and enjoying good food”.

Restaurant born in 1993

The space was created by Aníbal and Isabel Raposo in the early 90s. Since then, the restaurant has maintained its focus on diverse cuisine, balancing Mediterranean dishes with international references and more traditional recipes. Chef Fred remains linked to the project, taking on a central role in the kitchen and in creating the menu presented to customers. The offer also includes meals adapted to different dietary needs.

At a time when prices in tourist areas continue to be a recurring theme, the existence of fish dishes below 20 euros ends up attracting attention. Portuguese style mussels for 10 euros and grilled swordfish for 19 euros appear among the highlighted options.
