Pre-candidate proposes extending the protection period for beneficiaries who obtain formal employment or open their own company
The senator (PL-RJ) defended the continuity of Bolsa Família as “acquired right” of Brazilians. The pre-candidate for the presidency of the Republic also proposed exemption from the The statements were made this Monday (June 15, 2026), during the Rumos do Brasil forum, promoted by Veja magazine in São Paulo.
Flávio Bolsonaro spoke about a proposal to extend the period in which Bolsa Família beneficiaries continue to receive aid after obtaining formal employment or opening their own company. The senator argued that there is fear among beneficiaries of losing assistance when entering the formal job market.
“Many people have a prejudice towards those who are on Bolsa Família, as if they don’t want to work. That’s a mistake. Almost 70% of people who receive Bolsa Família work informally. And they don’t go to formality because they are afraid of losing the benefit. We have to understand that Bolsa Família is stability for those who have already gone hungry. People think the following: ‘If I get a formal job and I lose Bolsa Família, and if I lose my job, how will I be? I’ll go back to that time when I was hungry, when I had to ask for money at traffic lights?’”said the senator.
Proposal for beneficiaries
The pre-candidate announced that he will propose “the creation of a program to ensure that people continue to earn Bolsa Família if they move into formal employment or open their own company for a longer period”.
Under the current rule, when a Bolsa Família beneficiary gets a job with a formal contract, he or she starts receiving 50% of the amounts he or she previously received for a period of 2 years. This rule applies as long as the income per person in the family does not exceed half the minimum wage.
The senator did not detail how the extension of the protection period would be implemented for beneficiaries who obtained formal employment or opened a company. No specific deadlines or financing mechanisms were presented for the proposal.
IR exemption
“I’m in favor, it was also a campaign promise from the president. The only difference is that, with Bolsonaro, you would certainly have compensation for giving up this revenue, you would have something to get it from, without having to increase or create taxes. The current government does the opposite, it fleeces the Brazilian taxpayer with a very high tax burden in order to fulfill this campaign promise”these.
The congressman did not specify what would be the source of compensation for the tax waiver resulting from the IR exemption for those earning up to R$5,000.
The senator made a critical assessment of the paternal management in relation to the media. Flávio Bolsonaro identified problems in the previous administration related to the treatment given to the press.
“For me, the press plays a fundamental role. And I think it was one of the problems that I identified in President Bolsonaro’s government, the relationship with the press, the prejudice, often, of those who were managing the advertising budget, in relation to some media outlets. This has to be changed radically. It’s a lesson from something that I think was done wrong, we don’t need to repeat the mistake”these.
The pre-candidate reinforced that he intends to adopt a different stance in relation to the press if he is elected president.
