Chinese President Xi Jinping has accepted the invitation of US President Donald Trump and will visit the United States this fall. According to information from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit will take place on September 24. The invitation was extended during Trump’s two-day visit to Beijing, which was marked by spectacular ceremonies and diplomatic negotiations.

- Trump has warned Taiwan against declaring independence and acknowledged the lack of trade progress.
During the meeting in Beijing, the leaders discussed several key topics, including trade relations and international security. Trump announced that the negotiations resulted in “great trade deals”, mentioning China’s planned purchase of at least 200 aircraft from US manufacturer Boeing. The two presidents also agreed on the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to shipping, which is crucial for global oil trade.
Tensions around Taiwan
Despite the positive atmosphere in public, sensitive issues were also discussed behind closed doors. Chinese President Xi warned Trump that any missteps by the US on the Taiwan issue could lead to serious conflicts. Beijing considers Taiwan an inseparable part of its territory and has repeatedly emphasized that it is ready to use force to unify it with mainland China.
On the other hand, in an interview with Fox News, Trump warned Taiwan not to seek an official declaration of independence and emphasized that the US does not want a military conflict. “If it stays the way it is, I don’t think China will mind,” the US president said.
Business negotiations without progress
Although Trump did not spare praise for the Chinese president during his visit to Beijing, according to Reuters, he left China without significant progress in the field of trade. It was also not possible to reach a concrete agreement on cooperation in ending the war in Iran, which was one of the main topics of the negotiations.
Nevertheless, the visit indicated the willingness of both sides to continue dialogue and seek common solutions to issues affecting global politics and economics. Xi Jinping’s upcoming visit to the US may thus be another opportunity to deepen relations between the world’s two largest economies.
