Initiative includes 23 high-cost medicines and robotic surgeries; 112 thousand cancer patients benefit
The president (PT) announced this Friday (May 15, 2026) the investment of R$2.2 billion for the expansion of access to oncology treatments through the Unified Health System. The speech took place during a visit to the Hospital de Amor, in Barretos (SP).
The initiative includes the offer of 23 high-cost oncology medicines and the financing of robotic oncology surgeries in the public network. 112 thousand cancer patients will benefit.
The government announced the SUS financing table to make medicines available to the population, with a 35% increase in the supply of medicines in the public health network.
The medicines are intended to treat 18 types of cancer, including breast, lung, leukemia, ovarian and stomach.
Ten medicines will be purchased directly by the Ministry of Health and distributed to the States. The others will be offered through the Outpatient Procedure Authorization, in which the purchase is made by authorized centers in the country, with federal financing, and National Negotiation Minutes.
In addition, 5,000 men will benefit from the availability of permanent government funding for robotic prostate cancer surgery. The investment is R$50 million. For breast reconstruction surgery, the estimated investment is R$27.4 million per year.
The Ministry of Health also allocated R$129 million to Hospital de Amor, with a partnership between the unit in Barretos (SP) and Porto Velho (RO). Initially, colorectal, gynecological and urological robotic surgeries will be performed at the Rondônia unit, with an investment of R$2 million for 30 months.
