The accused, aged 25, is in pre-trial detention and was also punished for trying to kill another young man, who was involved with Ana Rita Dionísio on the day of the crime.
This Friday, the Matosinhos Court sentenced David Marinho to 23 years in prison for the death of his ex-girlfriend. The penalty results from the legal combination of a sentence of 20 years in prison for qualified homicideand a sentence of eight years, for attempted homicide.
This last case concerns the man who, at the time of the events, was having sexual relations with the victim who died, who only did not die due to circumstances beyond the control of the accused.
According to , the facts date back to August 4, 2025at a time when, according to the prosecution, Ana Rita and David Marinho had been separated for two months. The relationship lasted three years, and the accused was unhappy with the end.
David Marinho started watching Ana Rita because he believed she could have a new relationship. On the day of the crime, he hid near his house and realized that his ex-partner was with him.
He decided to go in and was surprised to see the young woman with another man. He still waited 20 minutes to attack.
According to , the man the young woman was with was stabbed, but managed to take refuge in the bathroom. In turn, the ex-partner was murdered through “successive knife blows” in the neck, chest, abdomen, back and arms.
As far as the compensation plan is concerned, he will have to pay five thousand euros to the father of the young victim and 20 thousand euros what man who survived. However, he ended up acquitted of the crimes of theft and driving without a legal license for which he was also accused by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
David, a Brazilian national, still tried to flee the country, but was arrested at Lisbon airport. After serving his sentence, the suspect will have to be expelled from the country.
